Programme and abstracts of the scientific conference entitled “Painters and workshops in Macedonia and Mount Athos (18th – 19th century / early 20th century)” that was organised by the Museum of Byzantine Culture in the frame of the temporary exhibition “Two Collections Meet”. The scientific conference was held on line in November 21st, 2020.

The aim of the conference was to further investigate issues concerning the post-Byzantine ecclesiastical orthodox painting of the 18th, 19th and early 20th century until the liberation in the Ottoman-occupied Greek territory and especially in Macedonia, Thessaloniki and Mount Athos. Issues related to the art, technique and style of images and monumental paintings, workshops and individual eponymous and anonymous painters based or operating in the above-mentioned areas, the movements of painters and workshops (syntrofies) and their networks of communication.
