International Museums Day 18 May 2026 “Museums unite the world”

18.05.2026

This year’s celebration of International Museum Day is titled “Museums Unite the World”. By choosing this theme for 2026, the International Council of Museums seeks to highlight the role of museums as spaces that do not eliminate differences, but create the conditions for them to be understood and treated with respect. Museums strengthen the connection between generations, communities and countries and at the same time promote diversity, sustainability and mutual trust.
Thus, in the context of the celebration, an educational activity is organized at the Museum of Byzantine Culture on Wednesday, May 20, at 10.00 a.m., titled “Stories of Objects: Connecting the Past with the Present”. This activity is addressed to a group of people from the Centre for the Elderly of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and its duration will be approximately one hour.
The aim is to enhance active participation during the museum visit and to connect the past with the present through memory recall activities.
On May 18, International Museum Day, admission to the Museum of Byzantine Culture and the White Tower is free.
