“An exhibit tells a story”
17.09.2025
A series of thematic tours in the Museum of Byzantine Culture, titled “An exhibit tells a story”. The tours, under the title “An exhibit tells a story”, are specially designed and present lesser-known aspects of Byzantine culture through selected objects of the permanent exhibition. These objects are of special interest and they reveal hidden secrets.
In the first section, clothes and fabrics tell their story and take us on a journey into the past. We learn about the clothing in Byzantium, the clothing of the imperial couple, officials and aristocrats, but also that of the common people. Together we discover the weaving techniques, the cost of purchasing fabrics/clothes, and the professions associated with the above.
The tour is preceded by a short screening on the topic of “Clothing in Byzantium” at the “Melina Mercouri” amphitheatre.
