The Museum of Byzantine Culture, in the frame of the upgrading of its services, offers since February 2015 an audio-haptic guided tour for blind or visually impaired visitors and their escorts. The action, titled "Touch and discover Byzantium", includes a specially designed route, in six of the eleven galleries of the permanent exhibition, and palpation of fifteen selected exhibits, made of marble and clay. The haptic guided tour is supported by a portable audio guided tour system (audio guide), in four languages (Greek-English-German-Russian) and by a leaflet for the escort. With the help of the selected route, visitors, not only touch original works of Byzantine culture, but also can learn about Byzantium and approach timeless themes, such as religious beliefs, daily life, burial customs and significant changes in the life of the medieval man.
The duration of the free visit is estimated at about one hour. The action was carried out in collaboration with the Centre for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind, Thessaloniki Branch and with the Regional Association of Central Macedonia of the Panhellenic Association of Blind and is supported largely by sponsorships (information on www.mbp.gr).
We are looking forward to your response for the notification of our action to the public.
We thank the sponsors of Link Technologies S.A. program (Audio tour guide with mp4 player) and Deborah Brown Kazazis (translation and vocalization of the English text) for their generous offer.
