The Museum of Byzantine Culture participates in the European Day of ConservationRestoration of Cultural Heritage 2019. The aim of the celebration is to showcase the conservation science and its contribution to the safeguard of cultural heritage. The public will have the opportunity to get to know the object of conservation and to be informed about the profession of the conservator and its working environment as well as the specialized equipment used in the conservation laboratories. There will be visits to the conservation laboratories, thematic guided tours as well as educational programs. All initiatives will be carried out by the staff of the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art. The European Day of Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage is an initiative of the European Confederation of Conservator-Restorers' Organizations (ECCO) and was celebrated for the first time in 2018 in the context of the European year of Cultural Heritage. The initiative is commonly organized by the Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Association of Conservators of Antiquities and Works of Art and the Greek committee of ICOM, with the aim to communicate the conservation of antiquities with the wider audience.
