Information for Planning Your Visit

The Department of Educational Activities and Communication of the Museum of Byzantine Culture offers educational activities (educational programmes) for primary and secondary school students, adults, families, and visitors with disabilities.

The educational activities aim to introduce visitors to Byzantine culture and to the Museum as a cultural space more broadly.

Plan Your Visit

Taking Part in an Educational Activity or Making a Self-Guided Visit?

If you are visiting the Museum with your school, you need to make an appointment with us only if you wish to take part in an educational activity or if you wish to carry out an educational programme independently.

If you are planning a self-guided visit with your class, you should arrange your visit independently through the ticketing platform: https://tickets.hh.gr/

Admission to the Museum is free of charge for school groups and their accompanying teachers.

Contact telephone number: +30 2313 306422

Carry Out an Educational Activity Independently

Information about the educational activities available during the current school year can be found under Education / [Educational Activities 2026–2027] on our website.

Before Your Visit: At School

Prepare your students in advance by discussing appropriate behaviour in the Museum.

For the smooth implementation of the activity, it is important that at least two teachers participate actively.

Divide the students into groups according to the instructions provided for the educational activity.

At the Museum

At the Museum’s reception area, please ask the Museum guards where the students should leave their belongings, such as bags and coats.

Ask the Museum staff to provide you with the accompanying educational material.

In the galleries, once the students have discovered the object they will be observing, it is recommended that they sit in front of it so that they can observe it closely and work together.

Visitors with Disabilities

Special schools interested in visiting the Museum should contact the Education Department at +30 2313 306419.

In consultation and cooperation with the accompanying staff, educational activities are adapted to the specific needs of each group.

Adapted educational activities are available for all age groups, including preschool children, primary and secondary school students, and adults.

The programme available in an adapted format is [“Shall We Play Archaeologists?”].

Participation in the educational activities is free of charge.

Families and Adults

If you are visiting the Museum with your children or on your own, you can use the [Museum Visit Cards].

The cards offer an enjoyable and different way of exploring the Museum, directing visitors’ attention to selected exhibits.

Please ask the Museum guards for the cards when you enter the Museum.
