Room 11: Discovering the Past
The 'epilogue' to the permanent display traces, both by displaying archaeological material and, mostly, by using digital applications, the journey made by an ancient object from the excavation where it is discovered to the museum where it is displayed, via the intervening stages of recording, study, and conservation. The history of museums is also presented with digital means.

A fifth-century mosaic floor from a house in Thessaloniki, depicting the zodiac circle and personifications of months and winds, is the only archaeological exhibit in the room.

It is "surrounded" by an abstract work by the painter Dimitra Kamaraki, which makes allusion to the modern urban environment of a Greek city in which the material remains of the past are frequently discovered.

The organisation of the room was co-funded by the Third Community Support Framework, Operational Programme "Culture".                                         Γ' Κοινοτικό Πλαίσιο Στήριξης
